Ahmedabad is the most common starting point for a Kevadia trip, and also the one where people most often get the planning wrong — either underestimating the drive or trying to squeeze it into a single exhausting day.

The Distance

Ahmedabad to the Statue of Unity is approximately 200 km, and takes around 3.5 hours by road via the expressway and NH-48. The road is good throughout — this is the most straightforward long-distance route to Kevadia in Gujarat.

By Road

Self-drive or a hired car is the most common approach. Leave Ahmedabad by 7 AM and you'll be checked in and at the viewing gallery by early afternoon. Leave later than 11 AM and your first evening arrives tired — which matters, since the Narmada Maha Aarti at dusk is one of the best parts of the trip and you don't want to have just finished a long drive.

Our honest advice

Don't day-trip this route. 200 km each way is a full 7 hours of driving alone if you go there and back in a day — more than the time you'd actually spend at the monument. Stay one night; even the most affordable option, Hotel Sai Inn from ₹3,800 per room, costs less than the fuel for a second round trip.

By Train

Ekta Nagar has its own railway station built specifically to serve the monument — check for direct services from Ahmedabad, and where a direct train isn't available, connect via Vadodara. This is the most comfortable option if you'd rather not drive. See our full guide to the Ekta Nagar railway station for platform details and train options.

By Bus

State transport and private operators run from Ahmedabad to Kevadia. Slower and less predictable than the expressway drive or the train, but the cheapest way in.

By Air

Ahmedabad Airport has considerably more flight connectivity than Vadodara or Surat, which makes it the practical entry point if you're flying in from outside Gujarat — even though it adds roughly an hour of road time compared to flying into Vadodara. Weigh that against your actual flight options before booking.

Where to Stay, Coming from Ahmedabad

Since you're already committing to the longer drive, properties closer to the monument make the most of your time on the ground: Tent City 1 (5.4 km) and Ramada Encore (5.7 km) are the shortest runs from your parked car to the viewing gallery and back after dark.
