Rajkot to the Statue of Unity is a full day's drive across Saurashtra and into central Gujarat, and it's a route worth planning properly rather than deciding on the morning you leave.
The Distance
Rajkot isn't listed among the official "How to Reach" starting points for the Statue of Unity, so there's no single authoritative figure for this route. Cross-checking several third-party travel and mapping sources, sources put the distance between roughly 375 and 430 km depending on the exact road taken and where in Rajkot you start from, which works out to roughly 7-8 hours of driving. Treat this as a planning estimate rather than an exact number, and check your own route in a maps app before you set out, since traffic through Anand and Vadodara can add to the drive time.
By Road
The recommended route runs Rajkot → Anand → Vadodara → Dabhoi → Ekta Nagar, primarily via NH 47. It's a straightforward highway drive for most of the way, with Vadodara as a natural halfway point if you want to break the journey or grab a proper meal before the final stretch through Dabhoi towards Kevadia. An early start makes a real difference on a route this long — leaving before sunrise gives you a much better chance of arriving with daylight left.
Our honest advice
Don't try to do this as a same-day round trip. At 7-8 hours each way, a there-and-back drive means 14-16 hours behind the wheel for a few hours at the monument — not a trade worth making. Plan it as an overnight trip instead: drive in, stay a night close to the attractions, see Kevadia properly, and drive back rested. Staying somewhere like Tent City 1 keeps you a short shuttle ride from the viewing gallery, so you're not adding extra driving on top of an already long day.
By Rail via Ekta Nagar Station
Ekta Nagar Railway Station (station code EKNR) was built specifically to serve the Statue of Unity and sits roughly 7 km from the monument. It has direct train connectivity from several cities, which can be a comfortable alternative to the long drive — you avoid the driving fatigue entirely and arrive close to the attractions. Check current routes, timings, and seat availability from Rajkot before you travel, since direct services and frequency can change.
By Flight + Drive via Vadodara
Flying is the fastest way to close this distance if your schedule is tight. Vadodara Airport is roughly 90 km from the Statue of Unity — a drive of under two hours, well short of the full road journey from Rajkot. Rajkot has its own domestic airport, so it's worth comparing flight availability and fares to Vadodara before deciding whether flying works out better than driving for your dates.
Getting Around Once You Arrive
Private vehicles aren't permitted inside the core Ekta Nagar attraction zone, regardless of how you get there. A free official AC bus shuttle network runs within the zone instead, connecting the railway station, parking areas, and hotels to the Statue of Unity and other attractions. It operates Tuesday to Sunday, roughly 8 AM to 10 PM, with the network (and the monument itself) closed on Mondays for maintenance. Plan around this — you'll park or arrive, then shuttle in rather than drive right up to the viewing gallery.
A Realistic Rajkot Plan
| Day | Plan |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | Leave Rajkot early, drive via Anand and Vadodara — arrive Kevadia by evening |
| Day 1 evening | Check in, Narmada Maha Aarti, light show |
| Day 2 | Viewing Gallery, Jungle Safari, Ekta Cruise |
| Day 2 evening / Day 3 | Gardens, remaining sights, begin the drive back |

Where to Stay, Coming from Rajkot
Given how much of the trip is already on the road, it's worth staying close enough to the attractions that you're not adding to it once you arrive: Tent City 1 and Ramada Encore are both a short shuttle ride from the viewing gallery, while Hotel Sai Inn is a solid budget option if you'd rather put the savings towards a second night.
