Most people budget half a day for the Statue of Unity and end up wishing they'd stayed two nights. Kevadia is no longer a one-monument stop — there are gardens, a safari park, a river cruise, rafting and a nightly aarti, all within a few kilometres of each other.

Here is what is actually worth your time, roughly in the order we'd do it, with the prices we book them at.

The statue stands 182 metres tall — the tallest in the world — and the viewing gallery sits at roughly 135 metres, level with Sardar Patel's chest. From up there you get the Sardar Sarovar Dam on one side and the Satpura and Vindhya ranges on the other.

We book viewing gallery tickets at ₹440 per adult. Go early. The gallery has a fixed capacity per slot, and by mid-morning on a weekend you can be queuing for a while in open sun.

If you'd rather have someone walk you through the statue's history and construction instead of reading panels as you go, we can also arrange a paid guide service for the day.

Worth knowing

The monument is closed on Mondays for maintenance. If your trip is a weekend break, plan to arrive Friday or Saturday rather than Sunday–Monday, or you will lose the main attraction entirely.

2. Jungle Safari & Biodiversity Park

A genuinely well-executed safari park with birds, big cats and a walk-through aviary, spread across a hillside. It surprises most visitors — people arrive expecting a small zoo and stay two hours.

At ₹230 per adult it is the best-value attraction in Kevadia, and the single best thing to do here with children. Allow two hours minimum.

3. The Narmada Maha Aarti

The evening aarti on the Narmada riverfront is the emotional high point of most Kevadia trips — lamps, chanting and the river going gold as the light drops. We book the experience at ₹1,270 per person.

We've written a full guide to what happens and where to sit: Narmada Maha Aarti — what to expect.

4. The Ekta Cruise

A boat ride on the Narmada with the statue in view from the water — a completely different perspective from the viewing gallery, and the shot most people end up using. ₹470 per adult.

Late afternoon sailings are the ones to take. The light is better and the heat has gone out of the day.

5. Khalwani River Rafting

The adventure entry on the list — rafting on the Narmada at Khalwani, about a 45-minute drive out. At ₹1,150 per adult it is one of the pricier activities, but it is the only one that gets you properly out of the tourist core.

Best between roughly October and March. Check with us before booking in peak summer or during heavy monsoon flow.

If rafting isn't quite your speed, the Khalwani to Zarvani Eco Tour runs from the same base — a narrated bus ride through Vindhya hill forest past seasonal waterfalls and tribal village viewpoints, without the whitewater.

6. Riverfront Cycling

Kevadia is unusually cycle-friendly — flat, well-paved and with dedicated riverside stretches. At ₹290 per person it is a pleasant early-morning hour before the day heats up.

7. The Gardens — Valley of Flowers, Cactus, Butterfly

There is a cluster of themed gardens around the statue: the Valley of Flowers (Bharat Van), the Cactus & Butterfly Garden, the Vishwa Van and a Maze Garden. Individually none is a destination; together they fill an easy half-day and they are pleasant in the cooler months.

The Maze Garden in particular is a hit with kids and takes longer than you expect.

A few more are worth knowing about if you have the time: Arogya Van is a 17-acre medicinal and Ayurvedic garden with quiet walking paths, and it has its own lunch stop, Arogya Café, serving a fixed Gujarati thali if you time your walk around midday. Kamlam Park is a free, non-ticketed lotus-themed park that works well as a breather between paid attractions, and the Bonsai Garden (Vaman Vriksh Vatika) sits right beside Ekta Nursery, so the two are easy to combine on the same visit. The newer Miyawaki Forest — a dense, fast-growing native forest planting — is worth fifteen minutes if you're already nearby.

With kids in tow, the Dino Trail's forest walk to a large dinosaur replica and the Pets Zone's up-close animals are both low-cost, easy add-ons alongside the gardens above.

8. The Sardar Sarovar Dam

The dam is the reason the whole complex exists, and in a full monsoon year the overflow is genuinely dramatic. Viewing access varies with water level and security conditions — worth asking your property's front desk on the day rather than planning around it.

If you'd like to be out on the water rather than just viewing it from the bank, the Sardar Sarovar Boating experience runs short rides on the reservoir near the dam.

9. The Evening Light Show

A projection and laser show on the statue itself after dark, telling Sardar Patel's story. It runs subject to weather. If it is on during your stay, stay for it — it is the natural end to a day here and it costs nothing extra to watch from the public area.

10. Actually Stay the Night

This is the one that changes the trip. Day-trippers from Vadodara or Ahmedabad see the statue and leave. Staying over gets you the aarti, the light show, an unhurried morning at the safari park, and a sunrise on the river.

Rates in Kevadia span a wide range. At the value end, Hotel Sai Inn starts at ₹3,800 per room and Fortune Statue of Unity at ₹4,000 per room. For the tent-city experience, Statue of Unity Tent City 1 runs ₹5,500 for one night. At the top end, Regenta Resort Vindhyachal has distinctive A-frame cottages and a pool with its own kids' section.

Not sure which format suits you? Read Tent City vs Hotel — it is the question we get asked most.

A Realistic Two-Day Plan

WhenWhat
Day 1, afternoonArrive, check in, Viewing Gallery
Day 1, eveningNarmada Maha Aarti, then the light show
Day 2, earlyRiverfront cycling or a slow breakfast
Day 2, morningJungle Safari (allow 2 hrs)
Day 2, afternoonEkta Cruise, gardens, then drive back

That is the itinerary we build most often, and it works. Add a third day if you want the rafting at Khalwani — it does not fit comfortably into two.
