Mumbai to the Statue of Unity is a longer haul than the Gujarat routes, and it changes how you should plan the trip — this isn't a weekend dash, it's a journey that deserves at least one comfortable night at either end.

The Distance

Mumbai to the Statue of Unity in Kevadia (Ekta Nagar) is commonly cited at around 420 km by road, translating to roughly 6–8 hours of driving depending on the exact route, traffic through Gujarat, and where you start from within Mumbai. This figure isn't published on any official government or tourism site — it's the consistent range reported across mapping tools and travel guides — so treat it as a solid planning estimate rather than an exact number, and always double-check your own route in a maps app before you set out.

By Road

Self-driving or hiring a car means committing to a genuinely long day. Most of the route runs via the Mumbai–Vadodara corridor before you branch off toward Kevadia on state roads. If you're driving yourself, an early start — well before sunrise — is the only way to arrive with enough daylight left to actually enjoy the evening. Many travellers instead split the journey with an overnight halt around Vadodara or Bharuch, arriving in Kevadia fresh the next morning.

Our honest advice

Don't attempt this as a same-day round trip. At 6–8 hours each way, you'd spend more time behind the wheel than at the monument. Plan for at least two nights — one to recover from the drive, one to actually see Kevadia. Staying somewhere close to the attractions, like Tent City 1, means you're not adding extra driving on top of an already long journey.

By Rail via Ekta Nagar Station

Kevadia has its own railway station, Ekta Nagar (station code EKNR), built specifically to serve the monument, and there is direct train connectivity from Mumbai. This is generally the most comfortable way to cover the distance — you board in the evening and step out the next morning close to the attractions, without needing to drive at all. Check current timings and seat availability before you travel, since schedules and frequency can change.

By Flight + Drive via Vadodara

For travellers who'd rather not spend a full day on the road, flying into Vadodara and driving the rest of the way is a practical option — Vadodara Airport is roughly 90 km from the Statue of Unity, a drive of under two hours, far shorter than driving from Mumbai. Surat is another possible entry point if your flight options work out better there, though it adds more road time than Vadodara. Compare flight availability and fares before deciding, since this leg isn't a fixed, published route.

Getting Around Once You Arrive

Private vehicles aren't permitted inside the core Ekta Nagar attraction zone. Instead, a free official AC bus shuttle network runs within the zone, connecting the railway station, parking areas, and hotels to the Statue of Unity and other attractions. It operates Tuesday to Sunday, roughly 8 AM to 10 PM (closed Mondays for maintenance, along with the monument itself). Keep this in mind when planning your day — you'll park or arrive, then shuttle in rather than drive right up to the viewing gallery.

Where to Stay, Coming from Mumbai

Since you've already put in a long day of travel, staying close to the attractions makes the most of the time you have left: Tent City 1 and Ramada Encore are both a short shuttle ride from the viewing gallery, while Hotel Sai Inn is a more budget-friendly option if you'd rather put the savings toward the journey itself.
