Surat is one of the closer starting points for a Kevadia trip within Gujarat, and the drive is straightforward enough that a lot of visitors underrate just how comfortably it fits into a weekend.
The Distance
Surat to the Statue of Unity is approximately 175 km, and takes around 3 hours 20 minutes to 3 hours 30 minutes by road. The recommended route runs Surat → Bharuch → Rajpipla → Ekta Nagar, and it's a manageable half-day drive rather than a full one.
By Road
Self-drive or a hired car is the most common way in from Surat. Leave by mid-morning and you'll comfortably reach Kevadia, check in, and still have time for the viewing gallery before evening. The Surat–Bharuch–Rajpipla–Ekta Nagar route is the one to follow — it's the road the official Statue of Unity authority itself points visitors toward.
Our honest advice
At 175 km each way, a same-day round trip from Surat is possible but tight — you'll spend close to 7 hours on the road for what should be a relaxed visit. Staying one night lets you catch the Narmada Maha Aarti at dusk without rushing back. A stay like Tent City 1 puts you minutes from the viewing gallery instead of hours from home.
By Train
Ekta Nagar has its own railway station (station code EKNR) built specifically to serve the monument, roughly 7 km from the Statue itself, with direct trains from several major cities. Regular train services connect the region to Surat, making rail a comfortable alternative if you'd rather not drive.
By Air
Surat Airport (STV) doesn't have a direct flight connection to Kevadia — from the airport it's the same road route, around 175 km and roughly 3 hours 20 minutes to 3 hours 30 minutes, via Bharuch and Rajpipla. Flying in only helps if your onward journey starts from Surat anyway; otherwise driving straight from the city covers the same ground.
Getting Around Once You Arrive
Private vehicles aren't permitted inside the core Ekta Nagar attraction zone. A free official AC bus shuttle network runs Tuesday to Sunday, 8 AM to 10 PM, every 15–20 minutes, connecting the railway station, parking areas, hotels and tent cities, and the monument itself — so plan to park or arrive at the station and use the shuttle for the last stretch.

Where to Stay, Coming from Surat
With around three and a half hours on the road behind you, a property close to the viewing gallery makes the rest of the day easier: Tent City 1 and Ramada Encore are both a short run from the monument, and Hotel Sai Inn is a straightforward budget option if you'd rather keep costs down.
