Most visitors know the headline fact — it's the tallest statue in the world. Here is everything else worth knowing before you go, kept to what's actually useful for planning rather than trivia for its own sake.
1. It Is 182 Metres Tall
The Statue of Unity depicts Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and stands 182 metres tall, making it the tallest statue in the world — more than twice the height of the Statue of Liberty (93 metres including its pedestal).
2. The Viewing Gallery Sits at ~135 Metres
The public viewing gallery is roughly level with the statue's chest, at about 135 metres — high enough for a genuinely commanding view of the Sardar Sarovar Dam and the Satpura and Vindhya ranges. We book gallery tickets at ₹440 per adult.
3. It Stands Beside the Sardar Sarovar Dam

4. It Honours Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel
The statue commemorates Sardar Patel, India's first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, known for unifying over 500 princely states into modern India after independence — the reason the site and surrounding township are named Ekta Nagar ("Unity Town").
5. The Monument Is Closed Every Monday
The Statue of Unity closes for maintenance every Monday. It's the single most common planning mistake we see — visitors arrive Sunday night intending an early Monday visit and lose the main attraction entirely.
6. Regular Hours Are 8 AM to 6 PM
Entry closes at 5:30 PM. The evening light and laser show on the statue's facade runs nightly at 7:30 PM, weather permitting.
7. There's an Evening Aarti on the Riverfront

8. Kevadia Has Its Own Railway Station

9. There Are Five Themed Gardens Around the Complex
The Unity Glow Garden, Vishwa Van, Cactus & Butterfly Garden, Maze Garden and Ekta Nursery are spread around the site, each with its own small entry ticket — together they fill an easy half-day.
10. You Can See It From the Water
The Ekta Cruise takes you onto the Narmada with the statue in view from river level — a genuinely different perspective from the viewing gallery, and the angle most visitors end up photographing. ₹470 per adult.
11. There's a Jungle Safari Right Next Door
A proper safari and biodiversity park sits within the complex — birds, big cats and a walk-through aviary across a hillside. At ₹230 per adult it's the best value on the whole ticket list.
12. Drones Are Not Permitted
This is a high-security zone around a national monument and a major dam. Don't bring one — it will not be allowed in.
13. It's Roughly 200 km from Ahmedabad
