Pune is one of the longer starting points for a Kevadia trip, and the one where planning matters most — this isn't a route you casually decide on the morning of.

The Distance

Pune to the Statue of Unity is approximately 530 km by road, taking around 9-10 hours of driving via NH 48, with Surat as a natural stopover roughly midway. Treat that figure as an approximate range rather than an exact number — sources vary between roughly 530 km and 550 km depending on the exact route and starting point within Pune, and traffic near Pune, Surat, and Vadodara can add meaningfully to the drive time.

By Road

Self-drive or a hired car is the most common way to cover this distance, typically via the Pune-Mumbai Expressway onto NH 48 towards Surat and Vadodara, then on to Kevadia. Given the length of the drive, most people break the journey at Surat rather than attempting it in one continuous stretch — arriving fresh matters more on a route this long than on the shorter approaches from Ahmedabad or Vadodara.

Our honest advice

Don't attempt this as a single-day round trip. At roughly 530 km each way, you're looking at 18-20 hours of driving alone if you go there and back in a day — more time on the road than at the monument. Plan it as an overnight or two-day trip: drive to Kevadia (with an optional break at Surat), stay a night, see the sights properly, and drive back rested. A stay like Hotel Sai Inn from ₹3,800 per room costs far less than the fatigue — and risk — of pushing straight through both ways.

By Train

Ekta Nagar Railway Station (EKNR) was built specifically to serve the Statue of Unity and sits roughly 7 km from the monument. Direct connectivity from Pune isn't consistent, so check current train options and be prepared to connect via Vadodara if a direct service isn't running on your travel dates. Once you arrive at Ekta Nagar station, the free official AC bus shuttle network (Tuesday to Sunday, 8 AM to 10 PM) covers the last stretch to hotels and the monument — private vehicles aren't allowed inside the core attraction zone, so this shuttle is how everyone gets around locally regardless of how they arrived.

By Air

Flying is the fastest way to close this distance. Vadodara Airport is the closest, around 90 km from the Statue of Unity, and a taxi or cab from there is a comfortable finish to the trip. Pune Airport has decent domestic connectivity, so check current flight options to Vadodara before booking — if nothing convenient is available, flying into Ahmedabad and driving the remaining stretch is the fallback.

Where to Stay, Coming from Pune

Given how much of the trip is already spent on the road, it's worth staying close enough to the monument that you're not adding extra driving once you arrive: Tent City 1 (5.4 km) and Ramada Encore (5.7 km) are both short runs from the viewing gallery, and Hotel Sai Inn is a solid budget option if you'd rather put the savings towards a second night.
