Kevadia involves more walking and more sun than most people plan for, and the evenings are cooler than the days by a wide margin. Pack for that and the trip is far more comfortable.
The Non-Negotiables
- Comfortable closed walking shoes. The attractions are spread out and there is a lot of ground to cover. Sandals will not do it.
- Sunscreen and a hat. Much of the sightseeing — queues included — is in open sun with little shade.
- Refillable water bottle. Dehydration is the most common way a Kevadia day goes wrong.
- Power bank. Long days, lots of photos, and shuttle rides between sites.
- A light layer for evenings. Riverside evenings are cool from roughly November to February and people consistently underestimate this.
- Photo ID. Required at ticketing and check-in.
The most-forgotten item
A layer for the evening. Visitors pack for a hot Gujarat day, then stand still on the riverfront at dusk for the aarti and get genuinely cold. Take a shawl, stole or light jacket even in months when it seems absurd.
By Season
October to February — cool evenings
- Light jacket, shawl or sweatshirt for evenings
- Full-sleeve options for early mornings
- Sunscreen still applies — the daytime sun is strong regardless
March to June — hot
- Loose cotton or linen, light colours
- A cap or wide-brim hat, not optional
- Electrolyte sachets or ORS
- Sunglasses
- Swimwear — you will use the pool, plan for it
July to September — monsoon
- Compact umbrella or light rain jacket
- Quick-dry footwear plus a spare pair
- Dry bag or zip-lock for phone and documents
- Insect repellent
If You're Staying in a Tent City
The tent properties in Kevadia are well-equipped — air conditioning, attached bathrooms, tea and coffee trays. You do not need camping gear. But a few things help:
- A torch or phone light. Pathways are lit but the grounds are large and dark between units.
- Slip-on shoes. You will step in and out to your verandah constantly.
- Earplugs. Genuinely worth it — fabric walls do not block sound.
- Insect repellent. More useful in a garden setting than in a hotel corridor.

For the Aarti
Modest dress — shoulders and knees covered — is appropriate at the riverfront, and you may need to remove footwear in places, so slip-ons help. Take that evening layer. Full detail in our Narmada Maha Aarti guide.
With Children
- Snacks for the viewing gallery queue
- Spare clothes if you are anywhere near a pool
- Their own water bottles
- Something to occupy them in queues
See our family guide for how to structure the days.
What to Leave at Home
- Drones. This is a high-security zone around a dam and a national monument. Do not bring one.
- Heavy camera rigs. Restrictions apply at several sites and you will be carrying it all day for little gain.
- Formal clothes. Kevadia is entirely casual. Nowhere expects them.
- Camping equipment. Even the "tents" have proper beds and bathrooms.
- Large amounts of cash. Cards and UPI work at all the properties we book.
A Note on Timing Your Bag
If you are arriving by train at Ekta Nagar and heading straight out to sightsee, keep a small day bag separate — water, sunscreen, ID, power bank — so you are not hauling luggage around. Every property we book can hold bags before check-in; just ask when you book.
