Kevadia — officially Ekta Nagar — is in Gujarat's Narmada district, and getting there is easier than it was five years ago. It now has its own railway station, and the road approach has been substantially upgraded.

Here is every practical route, and the one we'd actually recommend from each city.

By Train — Usually the Best Option

Ekta Nagar has its own railway station, built specifically to serve the monument. This is the single biggest improvement to Kevadia access and most travellers still don't know about it.

The station is a short drive from all the properties we book — most are between 5 and 13 km away. Every property on our list can arrange a pickup; just tell us your train and we'll set it up when you book. For platform details, train options and station facilities, see our complete guide to the Ekta Nagar railway station.

Booking tip

Trains to Ekta Nagar fill up well ahead on weekends and through holiday periods. Book rail before you book your stay — the room is the flexible part, the train is not.

By Air

Vadodara Airport is the nearest at roughly 90 km — about two hours by road. Surat Airport is a similar distance. Ahmedabad Airport is around 200 km and about three and a half hours, but has far more flights, so it often works out better for anyone flying in from outside Gujarat.

Unless you are landing at Vadodara specifically, weigh the extra hour from Ahmedabad against a much wider choice of flight times.

From Ahmedabad

Roughly 200 km, about 3.5 hours by road via the expressway and NH-48. This is the most common approach and the road is good throughout.

Leave Ahmedabad by 7 am and you will be checked in and at the viewing gallery the same afternoon. Leave at 11 am and you will spend your first evening tired — the aarti is at dusk and you will not want to have just finished a long drive.

From Vadodara

Around 90 km, roughly two hours. The easiest approach of all, and the reason so many people day-trip from here.

Our advice: don't day-trip. You will miss the Narmada Maha Aarti and the evening light show, which are the two things people remember most. An overnight at Hotel Sai Inn from ₹3,000 costs less than the fuel and toll you'll burn coming back a second time.

From Mumbai

This is the long one — roughly 420 km, and realistically 7 to 8 hours by road via the Mumbai–Ahmedabad highway. Driving it in a day is possible but it is a genuinely tiring drive and you arrive with nothing left.

Three better options:

  • Train. The most comfortable choice by some distance. Book to Ekta Nagar directly where available, and arrange a pickup.
  • Fly to Vadodara or Surat, then drive the last two hours.
  • Break the drive at Surat — roughly 280 km from Mumbai, and about 150 km from Kevadia. Makes the whole thing civilised.

See our full Mumbai to Statue of Unity guide for train numbers, flight options and a detailed road route, or check the Mumbai City Departure Package for a combined taxi, stay and sightseeing quote.

From Surat

Around 150 km, roughly three hours. A comfortable morning drive, and Surat's airport makes it a practical entry point for anyone flying. Read our Surat to Statue of Unity guide for the full route and travel options, or see the Surat City Departure Package for a combined trip.

From Pune

Around 530 km, roughly 9 to 10 hours by road — too far for a comfortable direct drive. Flying into Vadodara or Surat and driving the last stretch, or taking a train, works far better than the highway. Our Pune to Statue of Unity guide covers every option in detail, and the Pune City Departure Package bundles the taxi, stay and sightseeing together.

From Rajkot

Roughly 375 to 430 km depending on the exact route, around 7 to 8 hours by road via Anand and Vadodara — a long drive best planned as an overnight rather than a same-day round trip. Our Rajkot to Statue of Unity guide covers the road route, the train option via Ekta Nagar, and flying in through Vadodara. See the Rajkot City Departure Package for a combined quote.

From Indore

Around 300 to 325 km via Dhar and Alirajpur, roughly 6 to 7 hours by road — doable as a single push if you leave early, though the stretch through Madhya Pradesh is slower than a straight highway run. See our Indore to Statue of Unity guide for the full route, train connections and flight alternatives, or the Indore City Departure Package for a combined trip.

From Gandhinagar

About 218 km, roughly 4 to 4.5 hours by road via Ahmedabad and Vadodara — close enough for a comfortable day trip, though an overnight lets you catch the Narmada Maha Aarti without rushing the drive back. Read our Gandhinagar to Statue of Unity guide for the complete route and a realistic day plan, or see the Gandhinagar City Departure Package for a combined quote.

By Bus

State transport and private operators run to Kevadia from Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Surat. It is the cheapest way in and perfectly workable, though slower and less predictable than rail. Rajpipla, about 30 km out, is the nearest larger bus hub if you cannot get a direct service.

Getting Around Once You're There

Kevadia is spread out — the attractions are several kilometres apart, and so are the hotels. There is a shuttle bus system connecting the main sites, and auto-rickshaws are available.

If you have your own vehicle, keep it. If you have arrived by train, ask your property about transfers when you book rather than sorting it on arrival — it is cheaper and considerably less stressful.

What Is Shreshtha Bharat Bhavan?

If you're arriving by car, taxi or bus, you won't drive straight up to the statue. Private vehicles stop at Shreshtha Bharat Bhavan (SBB), the main reception, parking and transit hub for the whole Ekta Nagar complex. It isn't the monument itself, and it isn't a paid attraction in its own right — it's simply the point where you park, sort out tickets if you haven't booked online, and switch to the free shuttle bus network that takes you the rest of the way, a short ride from the statue itself.

SBB has paid vehicle parking, an offline ticket counter for same-day visits (card payments only, no cash — advance tickets are online only, via soutickets.in), the shuttle pickup point, baggage lockers, an Amul Foodland outlet for snacks, and the Ekta Cruise boat dock close by. There's no separate entry fee to pass through SBB itself — you only pay for parking or for whichever attraction you're heading to next. For the full picture — facilities, ticketing, and how it connects to nearby stays — read our full SBB guide.

If you're staying at Ramada Encore by Wyndham, which shares this location, you're essentially arriving right where you're sleeping. If not, book your stay before you arrive so your shuttle and transfers have a clear destination once you're through SBB. Message us on WhatsApp and we'll help line up tickets and pickups before you land.
